C99

  • C99 is a major revision of the C programming language standard, released in 1999.
  • C99 introduces a number of new features, including variable-length arrays, support for variadic macros, and universal character names.
  • C99 includes numerics support, including access to the features of IEEE 754 floating-point hardware.
  • The IEEE 754 status flags are manipulated in C99 code to ensure consistent evaluation of floating-point variables.
  • C99 defines a limited number of expression evaluation methods, allowing for checking the current compilation mode.
  • The C99 standard defines a limited number of features, but most C compilers provide support for some of them.
  • Future work on the C standard includes improvements for embedded processing, additional character data types, and library functions with improved bounds checking.
