Acharya Virasena was a Digambara monk, mathematician, and Jain philosopher.
He was known as a famous orator and accomplished poet, and his most reputed work is the Jain treatise Dhavala.
Virasena was a noted mathematician, giving derivations for the volume of a frustum and the approximate formula for the circumference of a circle.
He was proficient in astrology, grammar, logic, mathematics, and prosody.
Virasena wrote Dhavala, a commentary on the Jain canon Shatakhandagama, and started the work on Jayadhavalaa, which was completed by his disciples.
He was among the jewels of the Rashtrakuta king Amoghavarsha, and his lineage started with Chandrasena and included six disciples.
